Generalized Anxiety Disorder

The DSM-V criteria for Generalized Anxiety Disorder (F41.1) includes excessive anxiety and worry for at least 6 months. The subject of “apprehensive expectation” is about a number of events or activities (not just one thing). It is difficult to control the worry and includes at least three of these: restlessness, easy fatigability, difficulty concentrating or mind going blank, irritability, muscle tension, and sleep disturbance.

How to hack smoking when you don’t want to quit.

I know that you don’t want to quit.

But you know that everything will be better in the long haul if you can quit.

You will feel better. You will be less depressed. Anxiety will get a million times better. You will actually start sleeping at night. Your bones will get stronger, arthritis will start to heal finally, pain will decrease, your heartburn will improve. Heck, you won’t smell like a cat that’s been dead for a week because it got ran over by a fire truck in a grassfire anymore! Because that really is what you smell like when you smoke and then lean over to talk to me.

If it gets too cold, I like to run in Xeroshoes. This winter so far has had some record cold snaps. If it is too cold to run a half marathon in Nebraska in May without shoes, then I will add some sandals (Amuri Z-treks). Possibly socks. Possibly wool socks if it is snowing or raining.

Eat real food, not crap.

The fact is, the USDA food guidelines are not science-based. School lunches are mostly fast, cheap carbohydrates. The last time that I ate a school lunch with one of my kids, we had mashed potatoes, bread, a pasta dish, a cup of fruit, and a carton of milk. Basically just crap, crap, crap, crap, and a side of crap, with crap to drink. (I added an extra crap because of the cookie for dessert.)
